Church Lighting
Historically, since the 1990's the exterior of the church has been lit up during the winter months. For the last 10 years this is usually from dusk till 23:30 and additionally for an extra hour on Christmas day and New Years day.
Originally, the lighting was by two tungsten halogen lamps, each of 1000 Watt rating which were loaned from a Power Station nearby but eventually gifted to the village. As time passed these lamps. when expired, became increasing difficult to acquire so was decided to use LED lamps when we could get hold of them. Initially they were very expensive and only of a low rating. Eventually I found some which we currently us rated at 200 Watts giving comparable light output to the Halogen lamps of before but about one fifth of the cost to run them.
In the early days the control was by mechanical timer requiring constant up dating as the dusk time changed daily. Today we use a computerised time clock and a photo cell to switch the lights on and the time clock to turn off the lights as required.
This year the outside of the church of St. Peter will be lit up between dusk and 23:30 hrs daily from the 29th October 2021 until sponsor money is used, probably February 2023 (Electricity prices have doubled since 2022 and this has an impact on the time we can illuminate the church as this is subject to sponsorship)
The electricity used will be fully recorded and the church will be reimbursed from villagers who have sponsored the event.
Many thanks to the villagers who have stepped forward with this generous gesture.
Any one who thinks they may be able to help in future years, please contact Steve Ellis or the Parish Clerk who will make the arrangements.
